I directed an entire music service.

It seemed like such a daunting task initially, then it was a question of Who in the world is going to play electric guitar?!

Then, I quickly put together a team of solid folks for a really “special music event” at my church and proposed a group of songs that were all given approval.

I included one of my most favorite originals, which happens to be one of the most difficult stories I now have to tell. The song is called “Bullet” and it’s about a toxic relationship that I was in May 2015-June 2016. I actually had a major freakout about sharing it just days before the service. My team was very supportive, and beyond that, made the song their own and it was better than I could’ve imagined.

Did I mention that there were two services?! It was two. Two services.

We ended with a really cool mashup of “What a Beautiful Name” by Hillsong and “Break Every Chain” by Will Reagan that honestly brought down the house. It was long song too, ending just over the 9:30 mark.

Since the service, I have written and recorded (in my office, anyways) two new songs: “Flying” (came to me getting out of my car on Monday morning) and “House of Shadows” (came to me as I was trying to sleep on Monday night).

Things are going well music-wise and now I’ve kicked it into high gear for planning the upcoming Open Mic Night I am hosting with my teammates.
